EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — An El Paso dentist accused of sexual offenses involving a minor has been arrested twice this month and is now out on bond in both cases, while his Texas dental license remains active.
Oscar Vargas, whose name is listed with Eastlake Dental Studio in far East El Paso, was first arrested Feb. 9 on a charge of sexual assault of a child, according to jail records. He posted bond and was released the next day.
Vargas was arrested again yesterday on three additional felony charges: possession or access of child pornography, online solicitation of a minor, and online solicitation of a minor for sexual conduct. He has since posted bond in those cases as well and was released today, jail records show.

According to a previously reported affidavit, investigators allege the offenses occurred between July and November of last year. The document states a minor reported multiple instances of sexual contact. Investigators also allege Vargas provided marijuana edibles and alcohol and recorded parts of the encounters on his phone. Authorities say they reviewed text messages and voicemails in which Vargas identified himself.
A search of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) database shows Vargas’ license listed as active. In an email, a board representative confirmed he currently holds a valid license.
According to the board’s website, it has the authority to issue an emergency temporary suspension if it determines a dentist’s continued practice poses a threat to public health or safety.

Those suspensions are posted publicly. As of tonight, no disciplinary action appears listed under Vargas’ name.
KFOX14/ARC El Paso reached out to the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners to see whether a review is underway. TSBDE has not responded at the time of this report.
Requests for comment were also sent to Vargas’ attorney and the dental practice to ask whether patients are still being seen. No response had been received.
