EL PASO, Tx., February 27, 2026: On Tuesday, the El Paso City Council will revisit the $569,204.63 owed by Donald Trump since his visit to the city in 2019. Trump held an election rally on February 11, 2019. The City of El Paso billed the Trump campaign for the costs to provide security to Trump during his visit to El Paso.

The original invoice was for $470,417.05 but it has since jumped to over half-a-million dollars after the city assessed a 21% late fee to the original amount. The city has sent Trump numerous requests for payment.

On November 23, 2020, the City Council unanimously voted to hire the Law Office of Snapper Carr to collect the outstanding debt from Trump. The law firm was contracted on a contingency basis on December 3, 2020.

Since then, it appears that there has not been any movement towards collecting the debt.

The City Council agenda item added by City Representative Lily Limón asks the city representatives to approve asking for the city manager and city attorney to provide the city council with quarterly reports detailing the amount outstanding and copies of the monthly invoices sent to Trump.

In a telephone interview, Limón told us that it is important for the city to seek payment from individuals who owe the city as the city struggles to balance its budget. Limón said that the money owed by Trump could immediately be used to pay to repair potholes across the city. “Imagine immediately fixing almost 400 potholes” by collecting the outstanding debt from Trump, she told us. Limón calculated that on average it costs the city around $1,500 to fix a pothole. Using the money collected from Trump would pay to fix around 380 potholes, according to her estimate.

Also on Tuesday’s council agenda are the controversial Flock cameras used by the El Paso Police Department to track vehicle license plates.
