SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A man accused of assaulting a Whataburger employee in North Texas is recovering after he was reportedly beaten with a trash can by the restaurant’s manager.
The Paris Police Department was called to the location Monday, and upon arrival they found the suspect in the parking lot bleeding from his head. He was later identified as Anthony William Newhuis of Spring, Texas.
Investigators say Newhuis initially threatened some employees, including the manager. The suspect left the restaurant, but later came back and punched the manager.
Video footage of the manager eventually slamming a trash can on a person believed to be the Newhuis is going viral. Police say the manager was able to push Newhuis out of the establishment after the fight, which appeared to happen behind the checkout counter.
Newhuis was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily injury and public intoxication. He reportedly picked up more charges after cells in the jail flooded.
