SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — One of two suspects connected to a stabbing outside a YMCA location is in police custody.
Melanie Gomez, 31, is accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a man was stabbed during a custody exchange.
Investigators say Gomez had met the victim on the evening of February 19 at the Davis-Scott Family YMCA on the East Side. When police showed up, they say they found the victim with multiple stab wounds to his stomach and arms.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the victim was assaulted by Abel Ali Rivas, 27, in what might have been a setup.
Investigators say the victim called his girlfriend during the assault, and they also say Gomez helped Rivas during the assault once it got started. The girlfriend says she recognized Rivas’ voice because she previously been in a relationship with him, and she also told police she could hear Gomez in the background of the phone call.
SAPD says Rivas drove away in the victim’s car, and Gomez left not long after.
Rivas remains at large.
