CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Chris Wright, the U.S. Energy Secretary, discussed the role South Texas, the Port of Corpus Christi, and surrounding businesses play in global operations.

He was busy Friday morning visiting with people fueling up at ‘the Texan’ in Portland ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to the Coastal Bend. Wright visited Cheniere Energy Thursday to meet with workers, tour the facility and even signed an order aimed at facilitating Cheniere’s current expansion.

Wright explained what he has learned about refinery operations, export and import, and systems in place propelling the region into the largest U.S. port by total revenue tonnage. Wright’s message was the region was a ‘beachhead’ of American energy dominance.

Wright’s visit comes on the heels of President Trump’s third visit to Corpus Christi.
