Birdwatchers and backyard nature fans have a new reason to flock to Georgetown — and it all comes together under one roof.

During a visit to Wild Birds Unlimited Georgetown, owner Christina Darlington shared how the store is helping connect people with nature in the heart of the community.

“But we are your backyard bird feeding specialty store. My employees are very well trained,” said Darlington, “Bird feeding is the second-largest hobby, next to gardening. If you love the garden, more than likely you’re feeding the birds. So it’s huge. And we have so many wonderful customers. They walk into the store, and everybody wants to talk about their birds, what they’ve seen, what they haven’t seen, what they might be doing wrong. It’s just a really great place just to celebrate nature.”

The shop caters to fellow bird lovers and anyone looking to get a little more involved with the outdoors, whether that means learning more about local birds or finding ways to welcome wildlife into their own backyards.

“People come in with their problems, and we are problem solvers. We have cages to prevent grackles from getting into the birdseed because they can also decimate a feeder. Some of the great seed that we have is no mess, and that prevents them from growing when it lands. People send me pictures of their birds through email. So I’ll print them, and then they go into the photo book, and people love leafing through it, and they’re like, ‘oh, I didn’t know we had that bird'”.
