EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso Electric said customers could see a credit refund in their bills in the coming months.
According to EP Electric, residents could see a credit of about $16.14 on their March and April bills and about $31.44 in May.
The utility company said people don’t need to do anything; the credit will be used automatically.
EP Electric said the refund, which in total was a little over $40 million, comes after the utility said it had “access to lower cost fuel” used to generate electricity and sold the excess power to other utilities.
The refund will be reflected on the “Fuel Charge” section of your bill, which lists the fee EP Electric passes to the customer to recover the costs of what it paid for fuel to generate power.

In a press release announcing the refund, EP Electric said it is always looking for ways to “optimize our system to benefit our customers.”
This comes after the Public Utility Commission of Texas approved EP Electric’s rate increase on Feb. 20, which will translate to about a $13.71 increase in people’s monthly bills at least, with the total rate hike still unclear.
