EL PASO, Texas – (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso County residents are getting another chance to weigh in on what the county’s first-ever animal shelter will look like, with new renderings and design options now up for a public vote.
A community meeting earlier this week showcased updated design choices for the shelter, a project approved by voters in November 2024 that allocates more than $32 million.
The shelter is one of three capital improvements bonds underway.

The new designs included multiple options for residents to choose from, including artistic elements such as art murals and shading structures.

Precinct 3 Commissioner Iliana Holguin said community feedback has already shaped the project’s direction.
“Our shelter design, consultants took a lot of that feedback and have now incorporated it and are really working on getting more now, getting more into the details, getting more specific,” Holguin said.
She added that people attending the meeting had the opportunity “to vote on the different options that are being presented.”
Holguin said residents who could not attend in person can still participate.
“The public really is going to get a chance to, to really make their voice heard, and they get to vote on the different options and the different types of things that they want to see,” she said.
“That’s why coming to these meetings is so important. But again, we understand that everyone can make it to a meeting. And that’s why we’re doing the QR code as well, so that people can participate in the survey.”
