1. Trump visits Texas days before closely watched Senate Republican primary
President Donald Trump will visit Corpus Christi Friday afternoon, just days before the primary elections for the midterms where three Republicans are vying for his endorsement in a closely watched U.S. Senate race.
Trump will have all three candidates in the competitive race join him at his speech in Corpus Christi — just days before his party casts ballots in the primary race.
2. El Paso reports 17 measles cases, most of them at ICE detention facility
Health officials with the City of El Paso confirmed on Thursday 17 measles cases in the area, with most of the cases being at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility that has made headlines in recent months.
In a news release, the City of El Paso Department of Public Health confirmed four new measles cases within the city involving a man in his 20s, a man in his 30s and two women in their 30s—all with unknown vaccination statuses. The department said that about 98% of El Paso County residents are vaccinated against measles.
The other 13 cases were reported at Camp East Montana, a tent facility on the grounds of the Fort Bliss Army base that houses detained migrants.
3. Houston ISD approves plan to close 12 schools in heated board meeting
In a tense Houston ISD board meeting Thursday night, a plan to close 12 schools was unanimously approved.

U.S. military used laser to take down Border Protection drone, lawmakers say
The U.S. military used a laser Thursday to shoot down a “seemingly threatening” drone flying near the U.S.-Mexico border. It turned out the drone belonged to Customs and Border Protection, lawmakers said.
The case of mistaken identity prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to close additional airspace around Fort Hancock, about 50 miles southeast of El Paso. The military is required to formally notify the FAA when it takes any counter-drone action inside U.S. airspace.
