A firefighter tragically lost their life while battling a grass fire in East Texas on Friday morning.

TITUS COUNTY, Texas — A firefighter died while responding to a grass fire in East Texas Friday morning. 

Tri Lakes Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jerry Ward said crews responded to the grass fire around 11:30 a.m. at 1485 FM 21 in Titus County. One of the Tri Lakes firefighters passed away during the response. 

No one else was injured. The fire has been extinguished, Ward said. 

The firefighter’s name is not being released at this time.
