AUSTIN, Texas — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident early Tuesday morning on South Congress Avenue, according to Austin police.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:08 a.m. in the 7300 block of South Congress Ave., where the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver involved in the incident fled without notifying emergency services, stated the Austin Police Department (APD).

This incident marks Austin’s 13th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 13 fatalities. In comparison, on the same date in 2025, there were eight fatal crashes with eight deaths.

The investigation is ongoing, and the initial assessment may change as more information becomes available.
