Bedford’s Generations Park recently got the Lone Star Legacy designation from the Texas Recreation and Parks Society for its significance in the community and Texas.

Bedford’s Generations Park at Boys Ranch was recently recognized with one of the highest honors in the state.
The park, which began as a sanctuary for boys in need, received the Lone Star Legacy award from the Texas Recreation and Parks Society earlier this month for its lasting significance in Bedford and in Texas
Fewer than 100 parks throughout the state have earned this designation, according to the city.
“This award means so much to not only generations of our residents, but also current and previous mayors, city councils, and staff who have all had a hand in shaping this piece of land to meet the community’s needs over the years,” Molly Fox, a spokesperson for the city, said in an email.
In 1949, the site of the park at 2801 Forest Ridge Drive, was the Bedford Boys Ranch, which played a key role in Bedford’s history and development in a city without a downtown.
When the land became a public park, it grew in to a gathering place for families and a home to cultural events and celebrations, including the popular Beats and Eats Festival.
Generations Park has a baseball/softball complex, two entertainment pavilions, a water park, a recreation center and a fitness center.
The city is designing pickleball and tennis courts, and plans to add more trails and nine holes to the disc golf course.
