FRISCO, Texas – Despite grabbing the lead early and loading the bases in the ninth, Houston Baseball came up just short of its second win over a ranked opponent of the season as it fell to #19 Oregon State, 2-1, in the opening game of the Frisco College Baseball Classic at Riders Field on Friday afternoon.

Senior Chris Scinta (1-2) suffered the loss for Houston (6-3), despite allowing just two runs in five innings on the mound while striking out five. Dax Whitney (1-0) earned the win with 6.0 innings of work in which he allowed one run on three hits and a pair of walks. Albert Roblez (3) secured the save after retiring the last two batters.

KEY INNINGS
1st | Houston started on a high note. Helton led off the game with a double down the left-field line, then came around to score as junior Riley Jackson hit a double of his own to put the Cougars up 1-0.

4th | The Beavers broke through in the fourth. After Scinta retired the first two batters of the frame, Nyan Hayes was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on an error that would’ve ended the inning. A single from Jacob Kreig allowed Hayes to score, evening the game, while Kreig later crossed the plate on a single from Adam Haight.

9th | Houston nearly evened it up in the ninth. Walks from Fields and senior Cade Climie, along with a single from senior Carsten Sabathia III, loaded the bases, but Roblez was able to get the next two outs to shut the door to secure the 2-1 win for Oregon State.
