Man receives 6 years after pleading guilty to manslaughter in connection with 2025 murder

  • February 28, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – 49-year-old Jonathan Abare was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in connection with the murder of Clinton Bodie Park in January 2025.

Abare was sentenced by Judge Trey McClendon in the 137th District Court Friday morning.

Multiple witnesses told investigators Abare strangled and beat Park during a fight. Park’s death was later determined as asphyxia due to strangulation and blunt force injuries.

Abare was indicted on a murder charge in June of 2025.

Following Abare’s guilty plea, the family of Park gave victim impact statements.

“We loved our son,” his mother, Sheila Park, said. “And we know he was not an innocent bystander, but he didn’t deserve to die like that.”
