After, to use a sports cliche, a cup of coffee with the Mavericks, it appears Tyus Jones’ time in Dallas is coming to an end.
The Mavericks waived Jones after Friday night’s loss to the Grizzlies, a person with knowledge of the move told The Dallas Morning News. Jones played just seven games with the Mavericks.

The 29-year-old veteran guard was acquired by the Mavericks as a tack-on to the Anthony Davis trade just before this season’s trade deadline. The Mavericks received Malaki Branham from Washington in the Davis deal, then promptly flipped Branham to the Hornets for Jones.

In seven games with the Mavericks, he averaged 15.9 minutes per game with 3.6 points and 3.7 assists.
Dallas will now have 14 players on standard contracts prior to Sunday’s NBA buyout deadline. The open roster spot could seemingly be used to convert young PG Ryan Nembhard, currently on a two-way contract, to a standard deal. Center Moussa Cisse could also be a candidate for a full-time contract.
The Mavericks have lost 12 of their last 14 games and take on the defending champion Thunder on Saturday.
