Alamo is dead, long live the Flix. Flix Brewhouse has taken over both El Paso Alamo Drafthouse locations and, among other things, they bring new goodies to munch.
Alamo Drafthouse was the reason I ended my longstanding boycott of movie theaters so I was way bummed when I heard they were shutting down in El Paso.
On the upside, Flix Brewhouse is just as cool and they’re also stepping their food game as they assume control of the 2 former Alamo’s as well as at their original West side location.
The things that Alamo Drafthouse did that got me going to movies again were simple. On top of comfy seats and state of the art sound, they made patrons shut up, put their phones down, limited kids attendance, offered good food, (not just stale popcorn and snacks), and they had a full bar.
What Is Flix Brewhouse Doing?
Flix is totally on board with all that and, with regard to the food, they’re actually ramping things up a bit on their menu. Plus, they brew their own beer.

They’re adding new stuff like a “Truffle Shuffle” pizza that uses an alfredo sauce with mushrooms and truffles and a 5 meat pizza called “The Butcher”.
They’re also going international with some dishes a Korean “BBQ Bowl” which is a traditional Korean bibimbap bowl – white rice, veggies, beef, a fried egg and house made kimchi. Don’t forget about the beer.
What About The Decor?
The 2 former Alamos still look very Alamo-ish. Flix VP of Operations, David Meillier, told kfox that Flix decor will take over. For now though, it was more important to open up quickly to keep their staff working and making money than to worry about redecorating.
Pretty much all the Alamo Drafthouse staff made the jump to Flix and the decorative Flix makeover will be completed in due time.
