Texas A&M’s undefeated start came to a crashing halt on Saturday night, as No. 23 A&M (9–1) was run‑ruled 11–1 by No. 1 UCLA (8–2) in Game 2 of the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series.
Nothing ever clicked for the Aggies, and the warning signs showed up almost immediately. After a one‑out walk in the top of the first, Caden Sorrell was doubled off at first on a deep flyout to right by Gavin Grahovac — a costly baserunning mistake that erased A&M’s only early traffic. Moments later, starting pitcher Weston Moss struggled to settle in, and the Bruins pounced.
Moss opened the night by allowing four runs on four hits and a walk, putting the Aggies in a 4–0 hole before they ever found their footing. The lone highlight came in the top of the second, when Jake Duer launched a solo home run to cut the deficit to 4–1. But the momentum didn’t last. Moss surrendered two more runs in the bottom half of the inning, ending his outing after just 1.2 innings and handing the ball to Gavin Lyons.
Lyons delivered three steady innings, giving up only one run and doing everything he could to stabilize the game, but the offense never offered support. A&M managed just one hit after Duer’s homer and never mounted another threat.
Cole Hubert entered in the sixth, but with two outs, UCLA delivered the final blow — a three‑run homer that pushed the lead to 11–1 and triggered run‑rule territory. The Aggies went down in order in the top of the seventh, ending the night early and sealing their first loss of the season.

A&M will have to regroup quickly, both offensively and defensively, as they close out the weekend in Arlington and look to avoid back‑to‑back losses for the first time this year.
