Juanita “Nita” Joyce Haney of Lubbock passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, surrounded by her sons at the age of 91 years and 296 days. Born May 9, 1934, in Cone, Texas to Sylven and Iva Lee Cunningham, Nita started school in Estacado, Texas before moving to Matador, and later Lubbock, graduating from Lubbock High School in 1952.

Nita married James (Jay) Haney on July 21, 1956, in Tahoka. The couple made their home in Lubbock where she spent 31 years with AT&T before retiring in 1985. She was a long-time member of Vandelia Church of Christ and most recently Sunset Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Michal Haney and wife Shauna and Gregg Haney, all of Lubbock; grandson, Christopher Haney and wife Krysten; great-grandson, Zaidyn Haney; siblings, Winnie Harkness, Sylvia Burnett, and Larry Cunningham and wife Julie; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Cunningham.

Nita was preceded in death by her husband, Jay in 1995; son, Mark Kent Haney; siblings, Homer Cunningham, Rheba Cunningham, Lowell Cunningham, Velma “Sis” Gillespie, LD Cunningham, Clayton Cunningham, Loyd Cunningham, and SM Cunningham.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Services will be at 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
