No. 3 Texas A&M (7-0, 4-0 SEC) will head to Baton Rouge on Friday before facing No. 20 LSU (5-2, 2-2 SEC) on Saturday night, as the Aggies are looking to knock off the Tigers in Death Valley for the first time since 1994. LSU head coach Brian Kelly is under fire after the Tigers’ underwhelming 5-2 start, losing to Ole Miss and Vanderbilt on the road.
While LSU has been utterly dominant in Tiger Stadium, Texas A&M’s offense, which averages over 36 points per game, has yet to be stopped by any defense the program has faced, racking up over 400 yards against Auburn, Florida, and Mississippi State. At the same time, last Saturday’s 45-42 road win over Arkansas further proved that the Aggies are nearly impossible to contain through the air and on the ground.
However, LSU is desperate to get back into the win column, and, coupled with potentially inclement weather, this could be a low-scoring contest dictated by field goals and running the ball efficiently —an area the Aggies still hold an advantage in, having rushed for over 200 yards in back-to-back games.
Still, Texas A&M’s pass rush vs. LSU’s shaky offensive line, especially senior edge Cashius Howell matching up with LSU backup left tackle DJ Chester, could determine the outcome if the Aggies get to quarterback Garrett Nussmeier early and often.
Last week, the Aggies went with the all-white look against Arkansas and are now 2-0 on the year while wearing it. Still, to avoid a color clash, Texas A&M revealed on Thursday it will go with the all-maroon look on Saturday night, while LSU is expected to wear its regular gold helmet, white jersey, and gold pants.
