Over a hundred workers at Fort Worth’s historic Stockyards Hotel and its signature steakhouse are set to lose their jobs ahead of a lengthy renovation.

A new filing with the state indicates that 120 employees at the Stockyards Hotel and its in-house restaurant, H3 Ranch, will be laid off beginning April 6.

The layoffs are tied to the temporary closure of both businesses for renovations, according to a WFAA report.

The employment separations are “currently expected to last longer than six months,” according to that report, citing the Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification Notices (WARN) filing.

Officials have described the closure as part of a broader redevelopment of the Stockyards Entertainment District. The hotel and restaurant are expected to undergo an extensive renovation valued at roughly $30 million, with the restaurant anticipated to reopen later in 2026 and the hotel projected to reopen in early 2027, according to the same report.

The more than century-old hotel, located at 109 East Exchange Avenue, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has long been a fixture of the Fort Worth Stockyards. The adjacent H3 Ranch steakhouse, opened in 1998, has served as a longtime anchor in the district.

A previous permit filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation described remodeling work at H3 Ranch and Booger Red’s Saloon, including updates to lighting, electrical systems, and kitchen equipment, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The layoffs come as the Stockyards area continues to see new investment and redevelopment aimed at expanding tourism while preserving the district’s historic character.

The Dallas Express reached out to hotel management for comment on the layoffs and renovation timeline, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
