New facility features bus fueling stations, Wildcat Food Pantry, clothing closet, and community support programs.

PORTLAND, Texas — Gregory-Portland ISD (GPISD) is set to officially open its new Operations and Family Resource Center this Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, providing a hub for both district operations and community support services.

At the heart of the center is the Wildcat Food Pantry and clothing closet, providing families with food, clothing, and toiletries through donations and community contributions. Sharon Reaway, Director of Family and Community Engagement, said families can now shop once a month and select items they need.

The facility also features a bus barn with 41 buses, covered fueling stations, and operational areas for mechanics and drivers, reflecting the district’s commitment to efficient, safe transportation.

Director of Transportation Crystal Tyler said, “We have 6 fueling stations — 3 for diesel buses and 3 for unleaded vehicles. Our district serves about 6,000 students and buses 1,000 daily. This facility is a tremendous upgrade; previously, we had to fuel our buses in the elements.”

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Cavazos explained the growth of the programs, “We started with a grant in November 2024, initially focused on clothing, and since then we’ve expanded to toiletries and food. Families can shop once a month for items they need, thanks to our amazing community support.”

Funded through Bond 2023, the center is to support to help meet the needs of students and families. To support the district’s new food pantry, you can bring non-perishable food items during the ribbon cutting ceremony at 502 N. Gregory Ave from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
