EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A late-night report of a possible intoxicated driver on El Paso’s East Side ended with a 54-year-old woman in custody on DWI and evading charges, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded at about 11:01 p.m. on Saturday to a report of a possible intoxicated driver traveling westbound on Rojas Drive toward Joe Battle Boulevard.
Deputies located a vehicle matching the description and said they observed the driver commit multiple traffic violations, officials said.
Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield and continued driving, the sheriff’s office said.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop, and the driver, identified as Araceli Diaz, was taken into custody.
Following the investigation, deputies determined Diaz was intoxicated while operating a motor vehicle on a public roadway, the sheriff’s office said.
Diaz was charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and driving while intoxicated, and she was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Total bond was set at $12,500.
“Drinking and driving endangers not only the driver, but every family sharing the road. One decision can have life-altering consequences,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “We will continue to take swift action to remove impaired drivers from our streets and protect the safety of our community.”
