KELLER – Brock Burkett scored the winning touchdown on a 17-yard run with 1:07 to play as Keller withstood a furious Timber Creek rally from a 30-0 deficit to hold on to a 37-36 win.
Timber Creek (0-7, 0-6 in District 4-6A) took its first lead of the night at 36-30 when Trey Hopkins ran for a 9-yard touchdown with 2:14 to play. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Timber Creek after the score helped set up Keller on the Timber Creek 37 with 2:04 to play.
Keller (4-5, 3-4) moved to the Timber Creek 22 after a pass interference penalty. Three plays later, Burkett ran in for the winning score. Timber Creek advanced into Keller territory on its final drive, but a 43-yard field goal attempt fell short with no time remaining.
Keller jumped out to a 30-0 lead early in the second quarter while holding Timber Creek to one first down. Burkett threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Quintin Shropshire on the game’s opening series. Kaden McCauley followed up with a 10-yard touchdown interception return off Freddy Atamah’s pass deflection. Burkett finished a scoring drive with a five-yard touchdown pass to Ralph Crosby and then found Crosby for a 57-yard scoring throw to stretch Keller’s lead to 30-0 with 8:46 before halftime.
Timber Creek broke the shutout with Lane Brinkley’s 22-yard touchdown pass to Ebube Okelume. With 0:35 left before the break, Brinkley found Okelumein in the corner of the end zone for a four-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 30-14. Brinkley started the second half with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Okelume and added a 30-yard scoring throw to Hudson Howard. Brinkley finished the night with 267 passing yards and four touchdowns.
