AUSTIN, Texas – The HCU baseball, having won six of its last seven games, travels to take on a No. 3 Texas Longhorns team that has opened the season by winning all 11 of its games on Tuesday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in a rematch from last season’s NCAA Austin Regional opener.
Â
HCU (6-6) is fresh off a series win to open Southland Conference play, taking two of three home games against UIW this past weekend, including an 11-10 walk-off win on Sunday that saw the Huskies erase a 9-2 deficit in the final three innings of the game. Jack Walker had a huge week last week, earning honorable mention SLC Offensive Player of the Week honors. The senior outfielder hit two home runs while batting .500 (8-for-16) with eight runs scored and four RBI.
Â
Walker is currently on a seven-game hitting streak while teammate Katcher Halligan is on an eight-game hitting streak during which he has raised his average from .143 to .370. Halligan also has six doubles already this year, tied for 23rd-most in the nation.
Â
Texas (11-0) is coming off a 3-0 showing at the BRUCE BOLT College Classic in which the Longhorns earned wins over Coastal Carolina, Baylor and Ohio State. Temo Becerra was named SEC Co-Player of the Week honors for the Longhorns, batting .500 with three home runs, eight runs scored and seven RBI.
Â
The Huskies and Longhorns met twice last season, once during the regular season and then again in the Austin Regional of the NCAA Tournament. The Longhorns won that regional game, 7-1.
Â
HCU heads across state lines this coming weekend for another SLC series, this time visiting Lake Charles, La. to face the McNeese Cowboys in a three-game set from Friday through Sunday.
