LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Texas Tech Red Raider baseball player was arrested on Monday morning and charged with a DWI – open container.
19-year-old Jesse Rusinek, a two-way player at pitcher and outfielder for Texas Tech, was taken into custody and later released today from the Lubbock County Detention Center.
This season, Rusinek has a team-best batting average of .435 with one home run. He has a total of eight runs with seven RBIs. He has 10 hits on the year so far with three doubles.
Rusinek only has a couple of appearances at pitcher with an ERA at 6.75 in 2.2 innings pitched. He has allowed two earned runs and one home run. As of Monday night, Rusinek is still listed on the baseball team’s official roster online.
Texas Tech Athletics released the following statement on Rusinek’s arrest:
“Texas Tech was made aware Monday morning of an incident with one of its baseball student-athletes. At this time, we continue to gather facts regarding the matter and will determine any discipline internally consistent with the Texas Tech student-athlete code of conduct.”
