A Kia sedan began to make a left turn when it struck the rear driver’s side of a Ford Bronco, causing it to roll over, officials say.
PLANO, Texas — Plano police are investigating a two-car rollover that they say resulted in the death of one pedestrian and the injury of another on Tuesday morning.
According to the Plano Police Department, officers were called at about 8 a.m. to the crash at the intersection of Parkwood Boulevard and Legacy Drive.
Police say a dark-colored Kia sedan was traveling west on Legacy Drive toward Parkwood Boulevard, while a blue Ford Branco was traveling east on the same road toward Parkwood Boulevard as well. The sedan reportedly began turning left onto the boulevard when it crashed into the rear driver’s side of the Bronco, causing it to roll over, then strike two pedestrians on the sidewalk by the intersection, officials say.
Both pedestrians were taken to a local hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead, officials say. The second pedestrian had non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. Neither of the drivers was injured.
The identity of the pedestrian killed is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified.
“This is a tragic deal,” said Plano Police spokesperson Jerry Minton. “You got two people walking on the sidewalk, they’re minding their own business, going to work or going to get coffee or whatever they were doing, and all of a sudden this happens to them.”
The busy intersection was wrapped in police tape for hours as investigators worked the scene. People who work nearby told WFAA this corner has been the site of multiple crashes over the years.
“All the years I’ve been here, there’s been so many accidents at this intersection. So many wrecks we even keep a tally,” one woman said. “Slow down. Be more cautious, especially as many pedestrians that are in this area and the people who walk through here during lunch time, breakfast, and all day long. Just be more cautious,” she urged drivers.
