AUSTIN, Texas — The City of Austin is mobilizing a Victim Assistance Center in northeast Austin to serve and support those affected by the West Sixth Street mass shooting early Sunday morning.

The City says that Austin Emergency Management will be operating the center from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at 1520 Rutherford Lane Building 4, all in coordination with Austin Police Victim Services and FBI Victim Services.

Services available at the center include spiritual care, crisis counseling, behavioral and mental health services, and therapy animals. Victims will also have the opportunity to claim any personal items left at the crime scene.

“Traumatic events like the one that occurred Sunday morning have significant impacts, both seen and unseen,” said Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis. “A Victim Assistance Center can provide support to victims, as well as their families and friends, in both the short and long term. From coordinating mental health services and counseling to offering financial assistance for expenses resulting from the crime, the City of Austin will have resources available to help. We encourage anyone who experienced this incident in any capacity to access the resources and services they need.”
