LPD Corporal Michael Everette said, “It is never too hard; it is never too much to ask from yourself.”

Department: Lubbock Police Department

Name: Michael Everette

Rank: Corporal

How long with department: 20 years

Current Assignment: Traffic Division, Motors (motorcycle cop)

Certifications: Master Peace Officer License. Motorcycle Operator/Instructor, Field Training Officer, Crime Scene Officer, Breath Test Operator, Mental Health Officer, TECOLE Instructor, NAPD Instructor, Bicycle and Honor Guard.

Hometown: Shallowater.

Education: Shallowater High School, South Plains College

Why did I choose profession? I was working for the City of Lubbock as a mechanic and had several police officers recruit me. The transfer to the Police Department came with a large pay increase. The work sounded exciting and a little challenging.

How do you handle stress? I seem to handle stressful situations well. Growing up in an area with great sports teams and competition, I had coaches who pushed the desire to give-up out of me at a young age. Mental toughness and learning to focus when I was tired and paired with my genuine stubborn nature makes it easy to step up and work harder when it gets tough. The training officers I was around as a young officer made sure I understood the application and consequences of my decisions.

Honors: I received a Life Saving Award in 2009. I have competed in many motorcycle skills competitions around the state and even across the country, placing well in several. I was chosen to represent the LPD as a member of the Honor Guard in Austin several times and in Washington D.C once.

Hobbies/interests: I enjoy camping and being outdoors. I like to work on and drive anything with a motor. I love lifting weights.

Quote: “But did you die?” It is never too hard; it is never too much to ask from yourself. This was my way of saying “Work harder, nobody cares.”
