Several challengers are vying to fill the seat that will be vacated by Rep. Jasmine Crockett.

DALLAS — With Rep. Jasmine Crockett opting not to run for re-election as she seeks a seat in the U.S. Senate, several Democrats are running to fill the vacancy this March primary.

Three candidates are on the ballot this March: Barbara Mallory Caraway, Frederick Haynes III and Rodney LaBruce.

Caraway has experience as a Dallas City Council member and as a Texas state representative. She has previously challenged late Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson to represent this district.

This is Haynes’ first entry into politics. He made bold claims in his campaign announcement, calling for Medicare for All and the abolition of ICE.

Rodney LaBruce is a newcomer to politics. As a pastor, a financial professional, and a community organizer, he said he has dealt firsthand with incarceration and housing instability.

District 30 is a heavily blue district so whichever of the three wins the primary is highly likely to win the seat in November.
