LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Meteorological spring is in full effect here in early March with swings in temperatures and even chances for severe weather later this week.

TODAY

Temperatures are spiking into the mid 80s this afternoon across the South Plains.

Winds will also peak up into the 30 to 35 mph gust range leading to elevated fire danger for a chunk of our western counties. Plenty of sunshine to go around today.

TONIGHT

Overnight lows will drop down to the cool range in the mid 40s, but that’s still around 10 degrees above average for this time of year. Skies become partly cloudy with winds calming to generally less than 10 mph throughout the area.

WEDNESDAY

A weak cold front slides through the area Wednesday morning, keeping temperatures throughout the afternoon a bit closer to seasonal around 70 degrees. Skies remain sunny with fairly calm and quiet winds around 5 to 10 mph.

This generally means we’re anticipating a few scattered storms that reach severe thresholds throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

We’ll continue to see an unsettled weather pattern, keeping rain chances in daily through Friday and the rest of the weekend and even into the start of next week.
