AUSTIN, Texas — For the third consecutive Tuesday night, No. 3 Texas notched a run-rule win, topping Houston Christian, 16-3, in seven innings at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns scored in five of their six trips to the plate against the Huskies (6-7), highlighted by 14 runs over the final three complete frames.

Texas’ 12-0 record marks its best start to a season in 21 years. The Longhorns finished the 2005 campaign with a 56-16 ledger, capturing their sixth national championship.

After pushing across a run in each of the first two innings, Texas put up a six-spot in the fourth. The Longhorns sent 11 batters to the plate, mounting five hits in the frame.

Ethan Mendoza, Adrian Rodriguez, Temo Becerra and Anthony Pack Jr. all delivered run-scoring singles, with Pack Jr. plating a pair to balloon the lead to 8-1.

In the fifth, Mendoza drove in a second tally in as many innings, setting the stage for Carson Tinney. Two pitches later, Tinney smacked a towering three-run homer into the visiting bullpen, extending the advantage to 12-1.

The Longhorns scored four more times in the sixth, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Aiden Robbins.

Five different Texas players finished with multi-RBI efforts, including Tinney, Mendoza, Robbins, Rodriguez and Pack Jr. Meanwhile, all nine starting position players registered at one hit, as the Longhorns totaled a co-season-best 14 knocks.

On the mound, Sam Cozart (3-0) pitched five innings of one-run baseball. Cozart retired 15 of the 16 batters he faced, collecting six strikeouts. The freshman’s lone blemish came on a solo shot in the fourth inning.

Up next, Texas hosts USC Upstate for a three-game set at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The series opener is slated for 6:30 p.m. Friday.
