HOUSTON – Despite out-hitting Sam Houston and recording 13 strikeouts as a pitching staff, Houston Baseball dropped its midweek matchup in the Don Sanders Cup on Tuesday night at Schroeder Park.
Two home runs from seniors Carsten Sabathia and Dylan Maxcey produced the Cougars’ two runs.
Sabathia hit his home run in the second, launching a 401-foot shot to left center, his second of the season. A single in the fourth inning, continuing his streak with his second straight multi-hit game.
Maxcey added his home run in the sixth, another 400-foot to left center for his second homer of the season – both against Sam Houston (5-7).
The Cougars (7-5) pitching staff struck out 13+ against the Bearkats for the second straight game. Four different Houston pitchers recorded three strikeouts in the game.

The Cougars host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a three-game series beginning Friday night at 6:30 p.m. inside Schroeder Park. All three games can be seen on ESPN+.
