Do they hate the Longhorns in Sweden?

After the Stars’ overtime loss to the LA Kings on Thursday night, game-winning goal-scorer Adrian Kempe appeared to flash the anti-Texas Longhorns “Horns Down” sign at Stars fans in the lower rows of American Airlines Center.

Kempe, who hails from Kramfors, Sweden, broke the 2-2 tie between the Stars and Kings shortly into the extra frame on a two-on-one rush that led to the overtime winner. After snapping a one-timer past Stars goalie Jake Oettinger, Kempe skated to the right along the boards and held up the notorious “Horns Down” sign before being mobbed by teammates.

It’s unclear at this point why he opted for that particular post-goal celebration, as Dallas happens to be around 200 miles and a three-hour drive from the University of Texas in Austin. But Kempe might get a pass, since there were likely at least a few Longhorn fans in the crowd at AAC, and Kempe probably didn’t study much Texas geography growing up in Sweden.

Kempe flashing the horns down gesture is financially smarter to his wallet than if he pulled out his middle finger(s) and gave everyone in attendance the one finger salute. Which is what he really wanted to do.
