A 33-year-old has been identified as the man who died Monday after a hit-and-run investigation turned into a pursuit with Fort Worth police.
Sam Chavarria died from blunt force injuries Monday at 5:14 p.m. during a collision in the 3600 block of Camp Bowie Boulevard, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.
Fort Worth police said they were chasing Chavarria’s vehicle after officers learned he was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run near the eastbound lanes of West Freeway.
A 911 caller reported his vehicle was hit and he was following the suspect vehicle, which did not stop after the collision, police said.

Officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. Police said Chavarria didn’t yield, leading to a brief pursuit.
Fort Worth police said they were chasing Chavarria’s vehicle when he hit a curb, lost control and crashed into a tree.
Chavarria was the only person inside the vehicle, and no injuries to officers or pedestrians were reported.
