AUSTIN, Texas — A chocolate and gelato shop in Austin says they have been robbed for the fifth time, resulting in a $5,000 loss for the business.

Kessho Cacao, an Austin gelato shop, posted on Instagram saying that they have been robbed five times since they opened the business.

The business owners said the thieves have cut cables, broken locks, stolen a generator, and stolen an expensive battery from a truck.

They say they have filed numerous police reports about the break-ins, but also claimed the police reports were “useless.”

After the most recent break-in, the owners of the business said that 911 directed them to 311, even though the business has footage of a suspect trying to enter the premises as well as fingerprints.

The owners of Kessho Cacao said that the most recent robbery resulted in over $5,000 lost, a tough loss for a business that “barely made any margin at the early phase.”

“I know we could have chosen a safer neighborhood – but it was expensive to move the kitchen,” the shop said in their Instagram post. “I know we could have done better in theft protection, which we have been doing, but who would imagine the thieves could cut our cable, could [expletive] around with our locks recklessly, could circle around the building to steal a generator that barely kept our freezing equipment running when the area went out of electricity in a stormy summer night.”

Kessho Gelato has locations at 6726 Burnet Rd. in north Austin and at a food court off of South First Street in south Austin.

CBS Austin has reached out to APD for more information regarding these incidents.
