SAN ANTONIO – Day of the Dead San Antonio events will take place all weekend-long, rain or shine.

“We want everybody to come out and have a good time,” says Johnny Hernandez, Founder of Day of the Dead San Antonio. Weekend events are happening all throughout downtown for Dia De Los Muertos.

“Day of the Dead has become one of our signature celebrations here in San Antonio. We love to invite locals and visitors to be a part of it, to participate,” says Hernandez. In addition to La Vallita, Market Square also hosts a Day of the Dead event this weekend, and the river parade along the riverwalk takes off at 7pm Friday. Organizers say it will go as planned unless there is lightning or severe weather. Then on Saturday, Paul McCartney joins the downtown entertainment with a concert at the Alamodome. The City of San Antonio wants those planning to come downtown be prepared for increased traffic.

“His is going to be one of the busiest weekends of the year,” says Kelly Saunders, Public Relations Manager for the City of San Antonio. With thunderstorms in the forecast late Friday night through midday Saturday, it is important to plan ahead.

“I would just encourage everyone to check out the various events social media pages for the latest updates. Market Square’s event is rain or shine. We have a lot of indoor activities here as well, shopping, eating. So if it does start to rain, you can just hop inside until it stops,” says Saunders. Most of the rain is expected to occur overnight, and artwork being kept outside can handle the weather.

“Everything is built to last and it’s either fiberglass and everything is sealed. Our calavera, our catrina and catrina are all sealed and these, they can handle almost a hurricane,” says Hernandez.
