AUSTIN, Texas — Members of the Austin Police Department will run 29 miles this weekend in memory of the 29 APD officers killed in the line of duty since 1875.
The Austin Police Association says that Sgt. Ben Mewis and other APD officers are set to run 29 miles across Austin, each mile honoring one of the 29 APD officers killed on-duty.

APD lists 29 officers who have died while serving in the line of duty, the most recent being Officer Jorge Pastore, who died in a 2023 hostage barricade in south Austin.
The first APD officer known to have died in the line of duty was 35-year-old Officer Cornelius L. Fahey, who was shot by an assailant on Congress Avenue on March 8, 1875.
