Medical staff notified police that a child was brought to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the leg on Wednesday evening after 7 p.m.

ARLINGTON, Texas — A 6-year-old child was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound, according to Arlington police.

Medical staff notified police that a child was brought to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the leg after 7 p.m. on Wednesday, the Arlington Police Department said in a press release.

Officers learned the incident happened at a home in the 2300 block of Quail Run Road, where they believe a discharged round from the second floor of the home, ended up in the first-floor room of the child, officials say.

A family member is believed to have driven the child to the hospital shortly after, according to police.

It is unclear who fired the gun and who the weapon belongs to at this time. Police say no arrests have been made at this time, but that could change as the investigation continues.
