Lubbock Mayor Mark McBrayer is wrapping up his first term as Mayor and on Wednesday he officially kicked off his re-election campaign during the State of the City Address.

Mark McBrayer Seeking Re-Election as Mayor

Lubbock Mayor Mark McBrayer gave the annual State of the City Address on Wednesday and during the speech he announced he is running for re-election in May. According to KAMC, the Mayor wants to focus on Downtown Lubbock and the expansion of the Civic Center.

They Mayor also mention that construction of Lake 7 is already underway. In the past officials have said that “Lake 7” will serve as both a source of drinking water but also a lake that is open for water sports and entertainment.

Other Candidates Running For Mayor

According to ballotpedia, McBrayer will face three challengers in the upcoming election. Those challengers include Peggy Bohmfalk, G. Todd Winans, and Stephen Sanders. Stephens has unsuccessfully run for Mayor several time.

The deadline to file for this election was back in February. Election Day is May 2, 2026.

Lubbock residents in District 5, District 3, and District 1 will also vote for their City Council member, though in District 5 Jennifer Wilson is not facing a challenger.

The Mayor of Lubbock is up for election every two years while City Council members serve four year terms.

The first day of Early Voting in the Lubbock Municipal Election is Monday, April 20, 2026. The final day of Early Voting is Tuesday, April 28. Election Day is Saturday May 2.

Citizens have until Thursday, April 2 to register to vote in the local election in Lubbock.
