EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Traffic backups at a busy Far East El Paso intersection have some drivers wondering whether a roundabout is on the way.

A viewer asked about the intersection of South View and Paseo del Este after hearing a roundabout might be put in place there, but said roadwork has not been done in the area. The intersection sits near the Socorro School District Activities Complex, also known as the SAC, and is an area where drivers see significant backups, especially during rush hour.

City Rep. Art Fierro, who represents the area in District 6, said a roundabout at that intersection is not a project currently being worked on but said other roadwork in District 6 is expected to help mitigate traffic flow.

The work is part of the 2022 Community Progress Bond Project, which includes street projects across different sections of the district.

Fierro also said residents who want to start the process for a potential traffic change, such as a roundabout, can voice concerns to the city through the City of El Paso’s 311 website. After a complaint is submitted, the area would be assessed to determine what change might be needed, which could include a roundabout, a traffic light or a stop sign, depending on what research shows would work best.
