Fort Worth firefighters battled a blaze potentially caused by a lightning strike during a thunderstorm Wednesday night, according to a fire department statement.

Firefighters received multiple calls from neighbors in the 4200 block of Leeds Drive around 9 p.m. regarding a home catching fire after being struck by lightning.

Officials said the neighbors went to the house and checked to ensure everyone got out safely.

Fire crews saw fire coming from the roof of a two-story home on the corner and began fighting the blaze, according to the statement.

After 20 minutes, firefighters pulled out of the house and focused on preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures. The chimney collapsed while they were trying to contain the fire.

The fire was under control by 10:35 p.m., and no injuries were reported, the statement said.

North Texas received record rainfall Wednesday night, with some regions reporting flooding and hail.

Isolated showers and a few thunderstorms are forecast Thursday, though rainfall coverage is expected to be lower than Wednesday.
