EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 43-year-old man accused of failing to pay more than $40,000 in child support was arrested in El Paso after deputies learned he had an active warrant, authorities said.

On Thursday, deputies with the El Paso County Constable Office Precinct Three received information about an active warrant for criminal non-support for Fernando Montoya.

The warrant carried a $20,000 bond.

Authorities said Montoya had failed to appear at a court hearing and disregarded the court’s child support orders.

Deputies located him in the 15000 block of Pumice and took him into custody.

He was booked into the county jail without further incident.

Constable Hector Bernal said these types of warrants are often overlooked by law enforcement agencies and said his deputies will be “vigilantly” executing criminal non-support warrants.

Tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 915-566-8477 or online. Information may also be submitted at 915-273-3590.
