Several Central Texas high school football games are being moved up or rescheduled due to strong storms expected on Friday.

With a strong cold front expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to Central Texas on Friday and Saturday, several high school football games are being moved up or rescheduled to ensure player and fan safety.

According to district officials, at least seven games originally scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24, have been moved to Thursday, Oct. 23, including:

Crawford at Moody, 7:30 p.m.

Marlin vs. Riesel, 7:30 p.m.

Mexia vs. Whitney, 7 p.m.

Bruceville-Eddy vs. Rosebud-Lott, 7:30 p.m.

Robinson at La Vega, 7 p.m.

Troy vs. Little River Academy, 7:30 p.m.

Frost vs. Hubbard, 7 p.m.

Other districts are keeping their Friday games on schedule but adjusting kickoff times to avoid severe weather.
Updated Friday start times include:

Lorena vs. Connally, 6 p.m.

University vs. Waco, 6 p.m.

China Spring vs. Gatesville, 6 p.m.

Rudder at Belton, 6 p.m.

Midway vs. Killeen, 5:30 p.m.

East View vs. Chaparral, 6 p.m.

Robinson ISD Athletic Director Lonnie Judd said the decision to move the Robinson–La Vega matchup came after days of monitoring weather forecasts.

“You start looking at the weather early in the week — Monday morning really — and you just kind of hang on,” Judd said. “But once we saw storm chances jump to 90%, we knew we had to make the call.”

Judd added that rescheduling impacts far more than just players and coaches.

“People don’t realize who all it affects — band directors, booster clubs, referees. You even have to cancel your JV games,” he said. “It’s a lot of phone calls.”

Waco ISD officials also adjusted their plans, moving the University vs. Waco game up to a 6 p.m. kickoff Friday.

Ed Trochim, Waco ISD’s athletic complex manager, said the goal is to get the games played safely and avoid weekend washouts.

“We just moved it up an hour,” Trochim said. “We don’t want to play Saturday because the weather could be worse, and safety’s our number one priority — for players, bands, and fans.”

Both athletic directors said that while rescheduling can be challenging, safety will always outweigh convenience.

“It’s never an easy decision,” Judd said. “But we’re all in it for the right reasons — the kids.”

6 News has issued a Weather Impact Alert for Friday and Saturday as storms move into the area.
