Hub City Happenings: It’s spooky season
LLubbock

Hub City Happenings for the weekend of March 6

  • March 6, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Here’s a look at what’s happening around the Hub City this weekend:

“The Thorn”

7 p.m. Friday-Saturday 1 p.m. Saturday Buddy Holly Hall Tickets here

The Thorn tells the epic story of God’s love for the world and the spiritual battle for all humanity. The story of Christ is presented in an immersive show with music, drama, aerial acts, movement arts, modern dance, and special effects. Witnessed live by more than 1 million people over 25 years, The Thorn will engage audiences in the definitive story of love, sacrifice and redemption like never before.

Warning: The show includes flashing lights, strobe lights, fog/haze, and loud music.

The content of the show is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

A note for our guests seated in the first three rows of the orchestra: you may experience a bit of theatrical magic—including dramatic stage fog—and a unique perspective that may limit your view of the performers’ lower half. You might also find yourself looking up to take in the full spectacle unfolding on stage!

“Lonesome Dove” Traveling Exhibition

Buddy Holly CenterNow through March 22

The Buddy Holly Center is pleased to announce the opening of the Lonesome Dove Traveling Exhibition on January 23, 2026.

Based on Larry McMurtry’s celebrated novel, Lonesome Dove tells the story of two aging Texas Rangers who drive a herd of cattle 2,500 miles from the Rio Grande to Montana to establish the first ranch there. The novel captured the public imagination upon its release and continues to resonate with audiences today. The acclaimed 1989 CBS miniseries adaptation introduced the epic Western tale to an even broader audience.

The Lonesome Dove exhibition presents classic images taken during the filming of the miniseries by Bill Wittliff, renowned photographer, writer, and executive producer (with Suzanne De Passe). Far from ordinary production stills, the photographs capture the sweeping visual imagery of the series and reflect a compelling union of art, literature, and history.

This traveling exhibition is produced by The Wittliff Collections at Texas State University and is presented in partnership with Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
