HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The FBI is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of robbing banks located inside grocery stores in northwest Houston over the past two weeks.

Investigators have nicknamed the suspect the “Coverall Crook” because of the dark gray coveralls he wore during the most recent robberies.

Authorities said the man is suspected in three incidents involving banks inside grocery stores, including two robberies at a First Convenience Bank located inside a Food Town in the 6300 block of Antoine Drive.

The first robbery happened on Feb. 21, and the third occurred Thursday morning around 9:50 a.m. According to investigators, the suspect approached a teller and handed over a threatening note demanding cash.

After the latest robbery, officials said the suspect placed the stolen money in a plastic bag, but the bag broke open in the parking lot, spilling cash onto the ground. The man reportedly gathered the money before fleeing the area on a bicycle.

A second incident happened at about 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at a Woodforest Bank branch inside the Kroger grocery store at 12434 State Highway 249.

In that case, authorities said the suspect again handed a teller a threatening note demanding money. The teller stepped away from the counter for safety, and the suspect waited briefly before leaving without any cash. He was last seen riding away from the grocery store on a bicycle.

Officials said no one was physically hurt in any of the incidents.

The suspect is described as a Black man in his mid-50s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build, graying goatee, and thick eyebrows.

During the first robbery, investigators said he wore a red hooded sweatshirt, green undershirt, and blue jeans. In the last two robberies, he wore dark gray coveralls with an unknown logo on the chest and back. During Thursday’s robbery, he also wore a baseball cap under the hood of the coveralls.

Crime Stoppers of Houston is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the FBI or submit tips to Crime Stoppers.
