The victim was seen arguing with another man at the METRO Rail station at Main Street and Berry, police say.

HOUSTON — One man was shot in Midtown Houston Thursday evening and taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to the Houston Police Department.

The shooting happened around 7:05 p.m. along Main Street, near the intersection of Berry Street. HPD Lieutenant Larry Crowson said two Houston police officers were working a security detail when they hear gunshots. They found a man with several gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital.

Police say two men, including the shooting victim, were seen arguing on the METRO Rail platform at Main Street.

A suspect was not in custody and details about what led up to the shooting were not immediately know.

A METRO spokesperson shared a statement that read:

“METRO can confirm that an isolated incident stemming from an altercation at the Ensemble platform resulted in one individual being shot. The individual attempted to flee the area and was later located at a separate location.

“Emergency responders transported the individual to the hospital with injuries that appear to be non-life-threatening.

“At this time, the METRO Police Department is leading the investigation. Officers are working to identify and apprehend the suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing.

“The safety of our riders, employees and the community remains METRO’s top priority. We continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to respond quickly to incidents and maintain a safe, reliable transit system for everyone who relies on it.”

No additional details about the victim were immediately available. Police were on scene.
