FORT WORTH, Texas – HCU beach heads to the Metroplex this weekend for three matches at the TCU Invitational held this Friday and Saturday at the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts.

 

The Huskies (1-7) will play three matches, first taking on defending champion and sixth-ranked TCU (7-1) at 11:00 a.m. before facing Southland Conference rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-4) at 1:00 p.m. HCU will then wrap up the event on Saturday at noon against a Florida Gulf Coast (4-4) team receiving votes in the latest AVCA Top-20 poll.

 

HCU dropped four duals last weekend at the LSU Tiger Beach Challenge. Sophomore Allie Patton and Mycah Whittemore went 1-2 at the tournament playing on Court 5, defeating North Alabama in two sets (21-19, 21-18) and dropping a three-set heartbreaker to Tulane (21-19, 11-21, 17-15).

 

The Horned Frogs have reeled off seven-straight wins after falling to Arizona State, 4-1, to begin the season. During the streak, TCU has ranked wins over Grand Canyon and Florida State. TCU has excelled on Courts 3 and 4 with 6-1 records on both as a team.

 

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had a strong showing last weekend at the South Carolina Wheeler Beach Bash, earning wins over Chattanooga, Austin Peay and Coastal Carolina while falling to the host Gamecocks. On Court 2, the duo of Maria Duda Fernandes de Melo and Millie Olsson went 4-0.

 

The Eagles split four duals at the Seminole Beach Bash last weekend, defeating South Florida and Tampa and falling to a pair of ranked opponents in TCU and Florida Atlantic. Alexis Keeter and Ava Lilliquist went 2-1 on the weekend and were leading 7-2 in the third set when FGCU’s dual against USF was clinched, 3-0, on Court 1.

 

The Huskies continue on with their difficult schedule next weekend with a trip to Stanford for the Stanford Invitational on Mar. 13-14 with four opponents currently ranked in the AVCA Top 20 on the docket.
