North Texas can expect a break in severe weather on Thursday, March 5.
The first round of showers and storms this week arrived on Wednesday, March 4, bringing rain and thunderstorms to the region. At Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, 1.55 inches of rain was recorded Wednesday.
Areas in the Texas Panhandle and West Oklahoma have a better chance for severe weather Thursday than the Metroplex, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth.
That’s not to say that North Texas will not see any storms Thursday. In fact, the NWS is tracking a few showers and thunderstorms in the region over the afternoon hours. Gusty winds and small hail are possible in the stronger storms.

Severe weather returns to the forecast on Friday, March 6, but the NWS said storm coverage remain uncertain at this time.
However, any storm that develops will bring risks for all types of severe weather, including hail below 2 inches, wind gusts less than 75 mph and tornadoes in the EF-0 to EF-1 range. An EF-0 tornado can have winds between 65-85 mph and an EF-1 can have wind speeds between 86-110 mph.
In addition to the hazards, North Texas can expect rainfall amounts between 0.10-0.25 inch Friday.

Weekend and next week outlook
Showers and storms will continue over the weekend.
The flooding threat will increase this weekend as multiple rounds of heavy rain impact the region, according to the NWS. A few strong to severe storms could develop in Central Texas on Saturday, March 7, bringing chances of large hail and/or damaging winds.
In North Texas, showers are in the forecast for much of the day and overnight.
Flooding potential will continue on Sunday, March 8, as a front brings another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Severe storms are not expected Sunday as of now, according to the NWS.
Temperatures will also cool down this weekend, with daily highs around 70 degrees on Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8.
The active weather pattern will continue into next week, with chances of showers and storms through Wednesday, March 11. There could be potential for severe thunderstorms on Tuesday, March 10, but confidence is low at this time, according to the NWS.
As the weekend and next week near, the NWS will have a better understanding of what storms will bring.
