SAN ANTONIO — A construction worker was killed after a retaining wall collapsed at a work site on the city’s South Side.

Deputies were called around 1:44 p.m. Tuesday to the 21400 block of Applewhite Road.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said workers were building a retaining wall when it collapsed on the man. Workers attempted to rescue the man, who became trapped under a large amount of dirt.

Despite these efforts, the man was pronounced deceased by emergency medical personnel at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said the man’s age will not be released until next of kin has been notified.
