Club store shoppers are about to get more options in North Texas.
BJ’s Wholesale Club is looking to open its first store in April in the Dallas-Fort Worth area after announcing several new stores for the region. The Marlborough, Mass.-based company has over 200 locations in more than 15 states.
“We enter the Dallas–Fort Worth market later next month,” said William Werner, executive vice president, BJ’s, during a quarterly conference call this week.
ike Costco and Sam’s Club, BJ’s is a membership wholesale club. BJ’s, however, offers many items in smaller quantities and in smaller store formats, it says. Also, it has a full-service deli counter with fresh meats and cheeses.
The company announced four stores in the region last year, including Forney, Fort Worth, Grand Prairie and Waxahachie. Later, it added Mesquite for its fifth in North Texas.

Costco, one of the biggest names in the club warehouse market, is set to open a store in Forney next week, according to a post on its website. It’s located at 150 FM 460 — and comes after the company expanded into cities such as Prosper and Allen last year.
North Texas continues to attract more shops from large retailers in grocery and other areas as the population surges and it attracts more corporate hubs. That includes grocer H-E-B, recently announced it’s eyeing two locations in Garland alone, amid other investments by Walmart, Target and Ikea. On Friday, Tom Thumb opened its latest local store in Argyle.

BJ’s is arriving in the region as it shows rising revenue. Comparable club sales increased by 1.6% year-over-year in the recent fiscal quarter as it looks to grow its footprint this year.
“The early engagement and the hustle of the team on the ground there … in the Dallas market has been pretty awesome,” Werner said. “… We are really excited to get those clubs open.”
BJ’s hasn’t disclosed exact opening dates yet for stores, said Kirk Saville, spokesperson for the chain.
